THE GENERAL LAND OFFICE
organized in 1812, is charged with the survey, management,
and disposition of the public lands, the minerals therein,
the adjudication of conflicting claims relating thereto, the
granting of railroad and other rights of way, easements,
the issuance of patents for lands, and with furnishing
certified copies of land patents and records, plats, and
papers on file, In national forests it executes all laws
relating to surveying, prospecting, locating, appropriating,
entering, reconveying, or patenting of public lands.
