OLD SENATE HOUSE, BUILT 1676,
KINGSTON, N. Y.
It was the first capitol of the State and the
first Senate met in it in 1777. Kingston was
founded in 1658. George Clinton the first Con-
stitutional Governor of New York, was inaugu-
rated at Kingston, July 30, 1777. He was born in
Ulster County; was Governor of New York
twenty-one years and became Vice-President of
the United States.
