The Santa Fe Railroad has built a
hotel “El Ortiz," at Lamy, New Mexico, with
an enclosed garden. Such an enclosure is called in
Spanish the "placita.”
The placita of El Ortiz is very quaint and
beautiful. The old wooden columns and beams
used throughout the construction of the hotel
are particularly attractive in this part; and the
numerous easy chairs, the old fashioned adobe
walls, together with the quiet atmosphere, make
this garden a most quaint and picturesque place.
Lamy is a tiny village in the Glorietta
Mountains midway between Albuquerque and
Las Vegas.
