Back:
In 1709 a native of Prussia built a
tavern, or inn, back in the country on
what is now the way to Valley Forge.
Only a few years before the Elector of
Bradenburg, a little German princi-
palty, had been permitted to erect
ducal Prussia into a Kingdom, and
establish himself as King Frederick I,
of Prussia. This exaltation made Prus-
sians and Bradenburgers so chesty
that our inn builder proudly named his
inn the King of Prussia, and hung out
his sign.
King of Prussia, where Washington
and his officers held Masonic lodge,
and in the back room the old crane still
hangs in the huge fireplace.
