The only place on the North American Continent where genuine diamonds are found in their volcanic matrix. Here you may dig for your own diamonds - "finders keepers". Since the first diamond was discovered in 1906 by John Huddleston, more than 100,000 diamonds have been recovered from this crater. The sign you see here, marks the spot where the "Star of Arkansas" was found in 1956, valued at $15,000. The largest diamond found in Crater of Diamonds, weighed 40ΒΌ carats, was cut into a perfect gem weighing 15 carats and is known as the "Uncle Sam Diamond", valued at $75,000.
