The most primitive of the upper Rio Grande
Indian pueblos is located between the rivers Taos
and Lucero, near the Taos Mountains and the
Spanish-American village of Fernandez de Taos.
In its many-storied adobe communal houses live
about 400 Indians, white-robed like the Arabs
and very conservative.
