The hills of the city in the background look down proudly on the massive 80-million dollar warship that fought our enemies in World War II. Her record reads; 35-naval engagements; 18-downed enemy aircraft; 5-enemy ships sunk; 9-enemy shore bombardment; and the rescue of 7 pilots from the sea. Today the ship is a living memorial to 13,000 war dead of Massachusetts. |
