"Widow's Walks' date from the old Cape
Cod sailing vessel days when the wives of
sea-faring men watched for their loved ones
return. Sometimes a husband, whose ship
was lost at sea, would never return, but the
widow continued to watch faithfully for that
phantom ship that never came.
