DISCOVERED IN 1884 by the Blake Brothers, it was then
called the Yankee Boy, this large mine has since produced
more than 300,000,000 ounces of silver, and is the nation's
leading producer. It also yields significant tonnages of
copper and antimony. The surface operation here surrounds
the top of the Jewell Shaft which extends to a depth of
6,000' and laterally, covers an area approx. 3 miles long
by 2 miles wide. Located on Big Creek off 1-90 between
Kellogg and Wallace, Idaho.
