WASHINGTON'S HEADQUARTERS
ORANGE CO., NEWBURGH, N.Y.
In a seven-acre park enclosure at Liberty and
Washington Streets in downtown Newburgh, stands
one of the nation's most revered historic structures
Washington's Headquarters. The old greystone
dwelling with rambling roof, also known as the Has-
brouck House, incorporating sections built between
1725 and 1770, is the scene of Washington's final
encampment and longest stay while Commander-in-
Chief of the American forces during the Revolu-
tionary period. He and Mrs. Washington, with staff
members, lived there from April 1, 1782 to August.
19, 1783 when he announced the cessation of hos-
tilities.
