KAMIAH, IDAHO, population 1245, is on the Clear-
water River 55 Miles upstream from Lewiston. It is
important for timber products, agriculture, recrea-
tion and its historical background. Lewis and Clark
stayed here for several weeks in the spring of
1806, waiting for the snows to melt on the Lolo
Trail for their return journey to St. Louis.
