John Morrell & Co. is the oldest and fifth largest meat
packing firm now doing business in the United States.
The business was started in Bradford, England, in 1827;
in U. S. A., 1865; Ottumwa, Iowa, 1877; Sioux Falls,
S. Dakota, 1909; Topeka, 1931.
The Topeka plant alone spent more than 30 million dol-
lars last year for livestock, and currently has a payroll
of approximately 312 million dollars annually.
