In 1985, one of America's premier youth organizations,
Camp Fire, Inc. celebrated its seventy-fifth anniversary
of enriching the lives of Americans. Founded in 1910
by Dr. Luther Halsey Gulick and his wife, Camp Fire
was originally known as Camp Fire Girls. However, to
meet the needs of a changing society, Camp Fire became
coed in 1975 and dropped the word "Girls" from its
name. Today, Camp Fire offers a variety of programs to
its members which are designed to help youth of all ages
grow and face the challenges of a modern world. Indeed,
from self reliance, and safety and good citizenship train-
ing programs for the very young to career planning and
leadership skill development for older members, Camp
Fire has served the needs of America's youth over the
decades. The three hundred councils of Camp Fire serve
youth in thousands of communities nationwide.
