HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
First Day of Issue: April 20, 1987
First Issue Location: Atlanta, Georgia
A toddler sits with legs dangling in his high-chair sur-
rounded by doting relatives . . . an elderly woman
stands to thank those friends and loved ones who have
remembered her once more. Birthdays . . . what special
days! Days to celebrate the simple joy of being alive.
And a day we can enjoy indulging in being fussed over:
the cake complete with candles, the lovingly wrapped
gifts, the phone calls from near and far, all from those
who care and thoughtfully remember our very special
day. Birthdays, of course, also mean a certain extra
interest in the daily mail. Whether we are celebrating
our own birthday, or the birthday of someone dear to
us, receiving and sending birthday cards is a meaningful
way to express our love and best wishes. So, it's no
wonder, the United States Postal Service issued two
“Happy Birthday!" stamps as part of its Messages com-
memorative booklet of ten stamps. A big slice of birthday
cake provides the focal point of this attractive stamp.
