CHRISTMAS 1988
First Day of Issue: October 20, 1988
First Issue Location: Berlin, New Hampshire
To share the joyous Christmas season with their loved-
ones, people used to have to bundle into sleighs and
traverse long, cold, snowy landscapes to be together.
Many Christmas traditions have changed little since days
of old, but now friends and family are only a car, train, or
plane trip away when the holidays come around. Families
hurry off to spend the holiday with grandparents, aunts,
uncles, and cousins, near and far. There is an atmosphere
of anticipation as children everywhere dream of their
gifts: the car to race, the doll to dress, the drum to play on
Christmas morning. Whether celebrated at home or as
guests of relatives in another town, the magic of Christmas
is never lost for a child. A trip makes the holiday an adven-
ture; celebrating at home makes it a familiar experience,
none-the-less wonderful as everyday surroundings take
on a festive air. The tree is trimmed, the turkey is basted
and the stockings are hung by the chimney with care.
Every now and then, a tot might be spied peeking up the
chimney, just to see what's there.
