CHRISTMAS 1988
First Day of Issue: October 20, 1988
First Issue Location: Washington, D.C.
Christmas is an event that is celebrated with lively carols
and festive decorations by children everywhere, from the
young to the young at heart. Stories of beloved Christmas
children like Tiny Tim, the Little Drummer Boy and the
Littlest Angel are told every year. The joy which these
Christmas stories inspire in children is evident in their
shining eyes and flushed cheeks. They are awed by
Christmas festivities, and their innocence, happiness and
wonder infect all who witness it with the warmth of
Christmas cheer. Children embrace the season, helping to
decorate the family tree, drinking hot chocolate and
nibbling sleepily on gingerbread men while listening to
tales of Scrooge or readings of the Christmas classic, Twas
The Night Before Christmas. But, oh, how they come to
life once tucked in for the night, ears straining to hear
prancing hooves on the rooftop! They know Santa's on his
way, and they've been so very good all year long.
Wonderful things await them Christmas morning. How
could anyone sleep?
