LOVE

Throughout time, man has tried to put his finger on love,
that intangible, beautiful thing which drives us all. Great
scribes, poets, musicians and many others have tried to
capture the essence of love, to describe it in words and
song. Shakespeare put it this way: “My love's More richer
than my tongue." Others, too, have tried — some with
success, others not — to capture love. “What is love? ...
It is the morning and evening star," wrote author Sinclair
Lewis. The great poet Robert Frost penned: “Love at the
lips was touch As sweet as I could bear; And once that
seemed too much; I lived on air." And long ago, star-
crossed lovers frequently called on Saint Valentine for
heavenly assistance in matters of the heart. Martyred in
A.D. 270, Valentine came to be associated with uniting
distressed lovers and his saint's day — February 14th —
was eventually celebrated with the exchange of gifts or
romantic verses. Valentine's Day greeting cards came
into vogue in the 1840s, and millions of these romantic
missives continue to be sold throughout the world.
