Indian Basket Makers. One of the picturesque
features of life in that great American playground, the
Adirondacks, is found in the presence, in all parts of the
woods, of parties of Indian basket makers. These Indians
live in either tents or rustic lodges, and spend their time
in making fancy baskets and bead work, which they sell
to the tourists. All the members of a family of Indians
thus employed, even to children of six or eight years, take
an active part in the basket making.
