FAMOUS
Base Station, entering trains for the
top. It is here we enter the cog wheel trains for
the ascent of Mt. Washington. An engine pushes
the coach up the three mile ascent whose steepest
grade is 1980 feet to the mile. On account of the
various stops to allow the engine to take water,
we have time to get off and walk about. At one of
these stops, "The Great Gulf" is seen to its best
advantage and is one of the most wonderful sights
of the ascent.
