551-CENTRAL CITY, COLORADO
Central City was created when a prospector,
named John Gregory struck a multi-million dollar
gold lode here in 1859. At one time, the popula-
tion was 40,000 people.
When silver market collapsed at end of
century, Central City became a ghost town, then
in the 1930's, the restoration of the old opera
House was effected, also the historic Teller House
was restored with its Victorian elegance of the
early days.
