Taos was the third white settlement in the
U. S. established by the Spaniards. Con-
tinuous strife between the Whites and Indians
of the Pueblo made its early history a bloody
one terminating with the Taos Rebellion
z against U. S. rule in 1847. Today it is quaint,
w picturesque and full of charm, with its many
lofty mountains and beautiful fertile valleys.
The Taos Art Colony is one of the most
famous in America.
