THE VOLUNTEERS OF AMERICA
THE VOLUNTEER HOME supplies a real need; a home where the mother and
her babies live together; where the child receives the care and training of its owif
mother; and where during the daytime, while the mother is away earning her living,
her children receive the best care and attention.
THIS HOME is not intended as a permanent home, but is a clearing house for families
in distress where many families have found a home while adjusting themselves. Scores
of families have been re-united by finding and inducing the husbands to again support
them.
Many have been furnished transportation and assisted to go to relatives in all parts of
the United States.
All mothers able to work are found suitable employment through the Employment
Department, one-half of their earnings go to help support the home.
The total average number cared for by the VOLUNTEER HOME last year were 133
children and 83 mothers.
The total cost of maintaining one person is 51c per day.
THE MOST RIGID ECONOMY has always been practiced in all work conducted by
the Volunteers of America.
YOUR DISCARDED CLOTHING, canned goods, fruit or provisions will be appreci-
ated and will help to maintain this Home.
