In Candlemaker Row a short distance from Greyfriars
Church stands a fountain in memory of "GREYFRIARS
BOBBY", a faithful terrier who watched over his master's
grave for 14 years, from 1858 to 1872. Greyfriars Church
which was built in 1612 is situated a short distance from
this fountain and has many historic associations. In 1638
the National Covenent was signed there and well known
people, including Allan Ramsay and Regent Morton are
buried in the graveyard of the Church.
