Boulder Dam and Lake Mead as seen
from the Arizona side of the canyon.
This view is overlooking the Arizona
spillway and shows the transcontinental
highway U. S. 466 crossing the crest
of the great barrier. Above the dam
are the blue waters of Lake Mead
pierced by the four intake towers. At
this point the water is over 500 feet
deep. In the background may be seen
the spillway on the Nevada side of the
lake and the high walls surrounding the
dam. Outlined on the horizon are trans-
mission towers carrying electrical
energy to centers throughout the South-
west.
