COTTON FLOAT. Among the sights along the streets
and wharves at New Orleans are the huge drays used in carting
cotton, called cotton floats. They are very heavy and have
no sides, so as to better facilitate the handling of the bales,
which are piled high one above the other. They are also
floats in the street parade.
