UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE. This co-educational
and non-sectarian institution is an outgrowth of Blount College,
founded in 1794. It became the East Tennessee College in
1807, the Tennessee University in 1840, and the University
of Tennessee in 1879. It has about 100 instructors and nearly
800 students. There are 20,000 volumes in its libraries, and
the grounds and buildings are valued at $500,000.
