The Mackinac Bridge And Fort Michilimackinac
Additional Details:
This fort, built about 1715, put French soldiers at the Straits for the first time since 1701. British troops seized the fort in 1761. On June 2, 1763, during Pontiac's uprising, Chippewa Indians killed most of the small force and held the fort for a year. The British moved the fort for a year. The British moved the fort to Mackinac Island in 1781, and the old fort area reverted to the wilderness. |
