THE AMERICAN SOO LOCKS
Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan
Looking eastward. These locks are the busiest in
the world. The purpose of the locks is to overcome
the approximately 20-foot difference in water
level between Lake Superior and Lake Huron.
Running horizontally through the center of the
picture is the Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge
connecting the United States and Canada.
