Karl is a modest chef, Mr. James. He has always
known (as all of us know) that the Duckling he
prepares at Mader's are very fine indeed. Per-
haps he even thinks they are the very finest. But
Karl would never take it upon himself to say so.
And then you came along, Mr. James, and came
right out and said, "Mader's serve the BEST
Duckling in the land." . . . The sort that keep
early hours and is young and guileless, tender
and trusting, roasted to a golden brown, perfectly
seasoned and served blazing hot... Really, we
can't blame Karl for blushing. After all, praise
from Mr. James is praise indeed.
