This beach resort, residential town and agricultural point
is located on highway 101, 36.4 miles north of San Diego.
Its early inhabitants were composed largely of a group of
English gentry who had first settled in the San Luis Rey
Valley four miles inland. Inland from the town is located
the Rosicrucian Fellowship and the Mission San Luis Rey
that was founded in 1798. A short distance from town is
