WRIGHTWOOD, CALIFORNIA
Wrightwood, (EI. 6,000 ft.) is located in Swartout Valley
and is a conifer sheltered year-round resort. There are a great
number of camps located in the park-like groves of giant pines
and cedars. It is hard to say who the first white man was who
saw this area. It is known that in 1772 Pedro Fages passed
to the northeast on his way north from San Diego. In 1776
Fray Francisco Garces crossed Antelope Valley. John C.
Freemont coming down from the north, on April 15, 1844,
traversed the base of the San Gabriel Mountains on his way
to meet the Spanish Trail over the Cajon Pass . . . M.P.
