LIBERTY PLACE, FOOT OF CANAL ST.
Liberty Place, in the center is a Granite Monu-
ment, erected 1891, in honor of the citizens killed
in the battle of Sept. 14, 1874, which was fought
here and in the adjacent streets. 24 men were
'killed and 116 wounded. The names of those who
fell are inscribed on the base of the Monument.
