Built nearly 200 years ago, about 1752, and
for more than 100 years, since 1826, a ren-
dezvous for bon - vivants, included among
whom were Jean and Pierre Lafitte, the buc-
caneer heroes of the Battle of New Orleans,
who are said to have planned here some of
the details of the famous battle with Andrew
Jackson. The building has a characteristic
"entresol" or hidden floor, where it is said
stolen gold were hidden during the days of
the Spanish Regime.
