Is a French Province on the North Coast of
Africa, bounded North by the Mediterranean
Sea, East by Tunis, West by Morocco. The
climate is temperate and healthful in the moun-
tains, but hot and unhealthy on the marshy
plains. Our picture, taken on the spot, repre-
sents the native Algerine in his national cos-
tume. The natives are Arabs and Berbers; the
latter are descendants of the ancient Numidians.
The native religion is Mohammedan. Even on
this far off coast of Africa the civilizing influ-
ence of our "Singer" is felt, and our Agent has
supplied the native as well as French inhab-
itants with thousands of Singer Machines.
