BOEING 707 INTERCONTINENTAL
The 707-320B long-range airliner is the modern
version of America's first jet transport. Boeing's 707
series of jet aircraft is the world's "first family" of the
air, having set world standards in all phases of modern
aerial transportation. Since the initial 707 prototype
flight on July 15, 1954, the airplane has grown to
336,000 pounds (152 409 kg). It can carry as many
as 189 passengers more than 4,000 miles (6400 km)
nonstop at speeds better than 600 miles an hour
(965 km/h). A special version of the 707, called the
VC-137C, is used for flying the President of the
United States and other government officials. A
cargo version, the 707-320C, can carry 96,000 pounds
(43 544 kg) of payload. Both models have a wing-
span of 145 feet 9 inches (44,42 m), a length of 152
feet 11 inches (46,61 m), and a tail height of 42 fee
5 inches (12,93 m).
