WALT DISNEY'S
CLASSICS
FANTASIA
Originally released in 1941 as the first stereo-
phonic motion picture, Fantasia was hailed as a
milestone in the blending of sound and picture. Uti-
lizing recent innovations in sound technology, Fan-
tasia will once again feature an innovative state-of-the-art sound.
track. The classic cartoon feature was first recorded in 1937 with
Walt Disney and Leopold Stokowski combining their talents. Con-
ducting the 121-piece symphony orchestra and 50-voice choir for
the new sound track is Irwin Kostal, a two-time Academy Award-
winner - for West Side Story and Sound of Music. According
to Kostal, "Fantasia is still the most effective blending of sound
and picture in a theatrical motion picture. It was not only years
ahead of its time as a motion picture, it also pioneered stereo
sound with 'Fantasound,' a then-revolutionary system for recording
sound in several tracks onto one piece of film."
