WALT DISNEY'S
CLASSICS
PINOCCHIO
The second of Walt Disney's full-length animated features,
Pinocchio won two Academy Awards in 1940, one of them for the
song "When You Wish Upon a Star," sung by Jiminy Cricket. Carlo
Collodi's nineteenth-century children's classic about the wooden
marionette who became a real boy was given a brand-new char-
acter, the cricket who was to be Pinocchio's conscience. When
Pinocchio played hooky from school and told a lie, against the
advice of Jiminy Cricket, his wooden nose grew longer and longer.
The Blue Fairy helped him once, and finally she turned him into a
real boy.
