The Lewis and Clark Expedition finally heard the roaring of the
Pacific Ocean on November 7, 1805, after paddling down the
Clearwater, Shake and Columbia Rivers in dugout canoes they
had built after crossing the Rocky mountains by foot and
horseback. The "Corps of Discovery" arrived at the site of Fort
Clatsop December 7, 1805, and remained until March 23, 1806.
