The City of Alexandria is so closely identified
with George Washington that it could easily be
called his home town. Mt. Vernon is but 7 miles
away, but he maintained a town house and owned
considerable property in Alexandria, and here also
most of his best friends lived. Alexandria is today
a great railroad and shipping center, but its great
interest for the visitor is its historic significance.
