Groton, Connecticut, is a rapidly growing community with
excellent transportation facilities-airport, harbor, railroad and
truck terminals. Originally farmland for its twin city across the
Thames River, New London, Groton was made a town in 1704.. Its
landmark, the Groton Monument, commemorates a battle fought
against the British in 1781. Among its installations are the U. S.
Submarine Base, Coast Guard Training Station; among its indus-
tries, the submarine building Electric Boat Division, and the Charles
Pfizer Chemical Plant.
