Fontana Dam is the largest dam in the TVA
system and highest east of the Rocky Moun-
tains. It is the fourth largest dam in the
world, rising 480 feet from bed rock. It con-
tains three million cubic yards of concrete
and is over 2600 feet long with a road leading
across the top. For the benefit of visitors a
strategically placed observation platform has
been built, where refreshments and souvenirs
may also be obtained.
