"Let's go to Flagstaff" was the yell of days
of yore, when the cowboys from far and near
cattle-camps raced their ponies to town to
"drink 'em up and shoot 'em up". From the
"flagstaff" the U. S. colors waved over the
little band of soldiers stationed at the one-
street settlement composed chiefly of saloons
and Chinese restaurants.
The Flagstaff of today is a bustling little
city, mecca of summer visitors lured by its
marvelous climate. It is the gateway to the
Grand Canyon National Park, many moun-
tain and lake resorts as well as the vast
Indian Country. Lumbering is the chief in-
dustry.
