THE AMERICAN RED CROSS, between the Cor
coran Art Gallery and Continental Hall is dedicated to
the memory of the heroic women of the Civil War. The
beautiful assembly room is entirely in white with crimson
hangings, the colors of the Red Cross. The structure of
white marble cost $800.000. It houses the administra
tive departments of the American Red Cross.
