The Declaration of Independence and the en-
grossed original of the Constitution have been
transferred from the Library of the State Depart-
ment and are now on exhibition in the beautiful
marble hall in the Library of Congress. Between
two windows on the west wall of the second
floor gallery a niche has been cut in which the
Declaration is enshrined. In a marble case stand-
ing on the floor in front of the Declaration is the
Constitution of the United States. Both historic
papers are protected by a glass which has been
chemically treated so as to exclude all injurious
light.
