On lands purchased by the citizens of Macon and Bibb
Counties, the Ocmulgee National Monument was approved
and established by an Act of Congress June 14, 1934; to be
devoted to park purposes under the direction of the Na-
tional Park Service. This site is thought to be the first town
or settlement of the Creeks after their emigration from the
west, beyond the Mississippi, their original native country.
