On lands purchased by the citizens of Macon and Bibb Counties, the Ocmulgee National Monument was approved and established by an Act of Congress June 14, 1934; to be devoted to park purposes under the direction of the National Park Service. This site is thought to be the first town or settlement of the Creeks after their emigration from the west, beyond the Mississippi, their original native country.
