OCOTILLO AND CHOLLA CACTUS
The Ocotillo or Coach Whip Cactus is pe-
culiar to the desert regions of Arizona, New
Mexico and Texas. During spring and early
summer red blooms appear. The Cholla or
"jumping cactus" shown beside it is so soft
and fuzzy looking that it is often called the
"Teddy Bear." The unwary stroller on the
desert is due for a pained surprise, however,
the moment he gets near it, for the bunches
of sharp spines have a habit of dropping off
or attaching themselves to any object that
ever so slightly touches it!
