Founded in 1787
as the 11th of the
21 California
Missions, the
original mission
was destroyed
by earthquakes
in December 1812.
A new site was
selected and the
mission rebuilt
3 miles northeast
of the original
site in 1816. It is
now a California
State Park and
museum.
