The Alabama State Coliseum, located at
Montgomery, is one of the most unique struc-
tures of its kind. The Coliseum is circular in
plan with a diameter of 340 feet and contains
an oval arena 130 feet by 260 feet surrounded
by 8,528 permanent chair seats. The roof is a
barrel arch consisting of eleven segmental
arches of reinforced concrete rising to 100 feet
above the arena. The Coliseum, focal point
for Alabama's agricultural and livestock pro-
gram, is also used for rodeos, ice shows, etc.
It is the largest State owned Coliseum in the
U. S.
