This building houses the headquarters staff of this nation-
wide organization founded in 1857 and chartered by Con-
gress in 1906. Dedicated to the upbuilding of democratic
civilization and supported by the loyal cooperation of the
teachers of the United States to advance the interests of
the teaching profession, promote the welfare of children,
and foster the education of all the people.
