Only a glimpse of this famous Square at
the 23rd Street crossing of Fifth Avenue
and Broadway is shown. The "Flatiron"
building in the background, with the ex-
tension of the famous avenue of opulence
and wealth in the further background, is a
fit setting to the illustration.
Numerous monuments embellish the Square
and most magnificent buildings (sky-scrap-
ers). One now under construction it is re-
ported will be fifty stories high.
With some of these tall buildings now
swaying eleven inches out of plumb under
stress of a wind-storm, we are led to won-
der when the limit of height will be reached.
